With Donald Duck - 1983

I first went to Walt Disney World back in 1983 aged 3 and have returned countless times since - and with no desire to stop there! Although it sounds cheesy, it is true that memories made here last a lifetime. Remembering the feelings of awe when meeting Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore - to name but a few - are made even more magical by now seeing these same interactions through the eyes of my children.

Although the same magic is present 40 years on, the parks have changed beyond recognition. With the advances of technology the planning of a Disney holiday has become of paramount importance to what you can achieve whilst there. Whilst in my teens and 20’s I can remember just ‘rocking up’ and with minimal restaurant reservations having a fabulous time without long queues for rides really being part of my memories. Now, with the ‘My Disney Experience App’, Advanced Dining Reservations (ADR) being made up to 60 days in advance, introduction of Genie + (paid replacement of FastPass), Individual Lightning lanes, the Disney Dining Plan, planning a trip to Walt Disney World can feel like a military operation and a little intimidating.

I began consulting and helping plan Disney holidays for extended family and friends a few years ago. Friends who have known me for 20+ years who had tolerated my love of Disney, sitting in the car for long journeys suffering Disney tunes, watching the movies on rerun etc - suddenly began asking for help when planning their families trips. They found they had their hotels and flights sorted - and thought they were good to go. Then realisation dawned. There is simply SO much to do and see they didn’t know where to begin - which park shall we go to first, which restaurants are best for character dining, what rides might appeal to the grandparents and children, what can be skipped and what is a must see? A trip from the U.K. is often a once in a lifetime experience and friends felt pressure to ‘get it right’.

I simply loved being able to pass on my knowledge about the parks/ rides/ shows/ restaurants and often found myself getting more excited about their holiday than they were. The icing on the cake was receiving photographs once they were there and seeing the enjoyment on their faces. How could you not love planning time in ‘the most magical place on Earth’?

This lifelong love of Disney World, Orlando has now been able to translate into my job - helping YOU plan what will hopefully be ‘the trip of a lifetime’.
